Bikes, tails and other psycho babble

Admittedly, I had the best of intentions to do some research and come back with a compelling blog-- but life gets in the way and I simply haven't had time.
Have you seen that new bike trail that connects Cambridge with Isanti? It's especially visible just south of Cambridge to the west of Hwy 65. That's because it's a bike trail through a swamp, so a raised trail had to be built, wood railing and all.  I wanted to look up the funding for this project, and never got around to it, but you can bet it's either some sort of unnecessary grant to promote community health and wellness or taxpayers. Both are completely ridiculous to me.
Why should I (probably) have to pay for a bike trail to Isanti when I live 12 miles from it and will never use it? What about a 80-year-old man who leaves the house once a week to get coffee with friends and groceries. He's sure never going to use it. It's our awesome over-spending government at work again. But, considering I don't know this for sure, I should stop before I dig myself a deep, deep hole!
Here's what I'm thinking: why can't bike riders pay trail fees just like snowmobilers do? Why aren't they forced to buy trail stickers and  pay registrations fees? I mean, really, you get the same benefits-- a trail to call your own. Bicyclist seem to be a little fanatic to me anyway. Why can't they use sidewalks when on busy city streets. Get out of the way of my 4,000 lb. car so I don't run you over. I'm sick of dodging people on bikes in the streets because they think they're entitled to use the streets. Ride on the frickin' sidewalk!
Now I sound like I could start contradicting myself, saying I'd rather have bikers on the sidewalks, but then complaining about a giant bike trail being constructed just for them.
