OH MY GOSH! I have THE WORST neighbors possible! This woman doesn't even try to be nice and neighborly, she's CRAZY! It's a super long story, so I'm going to try to shorten it as much as possible
Incident 1: (third weekend in May, 2008) Man from next door comes over one evening early last spring to tell us that our yard looks nice and his wife likes my flowers. Mike thanks him and says something about having to spray for weeds again soon. Man gets mad, stomps through our yard to his house and slams the door and we can hear him and wife yelling (cause their windows are open). We feel uncomfortable, but keep doing whatever we were doing. Man comes back over about 5 minutes later and yells at us saying we CAN'T spray our yard because his wife has had miscarriages because of chemicals and he doesn't want it in his ground water, and that's why they moved to Braham. I'm scared of this guy by now because he made such a scene stomping to his house and slamming doors. I'm thinking, "HELLO, man-- you get your water from the city of Braham, not from the ground in your backyard!!!!" So, Mike tells the guy there's nothing he can do to stop us from spraying because it's our property and tells the guy to turn around and leave, among other things! We put up a 6-foot privacy fence the very next weekend, and sprayed our lawn for weeds.
Incident 2: (Memorial Day weekend, 2008) My dad came over with his lawn mower and sprayer and unloads to begin spraying. Man from next doors storms out of his house SCREAMING at us, the wife stands on the front step bawling. We're confused. Man screams that we can't spray and that we're hurting his wife and she's going to have to go to the emergency room. We told my dad just to spray the lawn, so he did. He finishes and starts loading the tractor and the Braham police officer shows up and walks to the neighbor's house. We roll our eyes because we know he's coming to us next, and he did, about 15 minutes later. The officer walked down the sidewalk and literally rolled his eyes and shook his head when he got to us and said "wow!". He said he's never had to deal with this before and he couldn't believe how irate these people were. He said that they asked us just to warn them next time we spray so they could leave for a few days. Really? They are going to leave for a few DAYS because we chemically treated our lawn?????? Unbelievable! Since we obviously didn't do anything wrong, the officer just chatted with us for a few minutes and drove away. No harm done-- or so we thought.
We learned over the winter that the husband moved out because of a domestic dispute.
Incident 3: (late June, 2009) I was watering my tomato plants with Miracle Grow for the very first time this season. The Braham police officer drives slowly down my street, turns around in our driveway and parks between our house and the crazy neighbors. I knew exactly why he was there. Really? She called the cops because I was using Miracle Grow? Yep, she sure did. The officer talked to the woman for a few minutes and walked across the grass to the garage where I was sweeping. He said he was called over here because the woman said I was using a "suspicious blue chemical." Nope, just Miracle Grow, I told him, and even showed him the box. Nothing he could do. He also mentioned that he knew this was the second time that the emergency system had been mis-used because of this and said that next time the woman would receive a citation/ticket. Good, I thought, 'cause this is ridiculous.
Incident 3: (Labor Day weekend, 2009) My dad came over to spray our lawn for weeds because it hadn't been done yet this year. The woman next door happened to be having a yard sale (trash sale is more like it). The minute my dad pulled into the driveway, she ran into her house bawling. I knew there was going to be friction, so I had the video camera to video this tirade. She must have run into the house to call the police right away and then came back outside to pick up their trash sale items and call me a bitch and asshole (because I happened to be standing in the driveway when they were packing their trash up). She was crying and yelling the whole time she was outside. Then, went inside and slammed all of her windows shut and flicked us off while doing so. Childish, I thought. This woman is CRAZY! By the time my dad got to the front yard to spray, the officer was knocking on her door. He was in her house about 15 minutes and then walked over to us. We were just waiting. Once again, he said we weren't doing anything wrong, so there's nothing he can do, he said he was going to check into her history and give her a citation for mis-using the emergency system, if necessary. I couldn't believe it. This woman is completely irrational. There's no sense of decency; she doesn't try to communicate with us, it's always through a police officer. And, her yard is a DUMP. She mows about four times a year, no joke. So, she can't rip on us taking care of our lawn when hers looks like a hay field. Plus, she's got trash and toys that never get played with out in the yard, and it looks horrible. While our house was for sale, people (who were looking at our house) complained about her trash next door.
It's such a ridiculous situation. I could go on and on about her. I seriously think she needs some professional help. I really tried to condense this story, and there's so much more I could say! I just shake my head in disbelief while Mike gets mad about this woman and her utter lack of decency. Wow!
I love it. You definetly win for neighbor of the year! :)
